Options and Choices in Constructing a Frameless Glass Shower

Blog

Custom frameless showers offer endless design opportunities as you can build various shapes and use different types of glass. You can also choose the shape and colour of the hardware to harmonise with your bathroom. Here are several of the options and choices you'll have.

Configuration

Firstly, you can construct a frameless shower in any configuration. For example, you could connect a fixed screen against a bath or in a bathroom corner. Or create different shapes like square, oblong, hexagonal or curved designs. For a spa experience in the shower, opt for a steam design that reaches the ceiling. You can also specify the height and width of the screens to fit into your unique bathroom. Frameless glass shower doors can be built in any opening style, including pivot, swinging and sliding models.

Decorative Glass Options

After you've settled on a shower size and shape, you need to pick a glass style. You could install clear glass or transparent low-iron screens without the green taint of standard panels. Different kinds of decorative glass are available that blur the view into the shower to varying degrees. Some are frosty, like a misty morning, while other textured panels mimic rain trickling down a windowpane. Different kinds of textures are available. You can also select between varying glass thicknesses. Thicker panels of toughened safety glass will be more expensive and robust than thinner ones. To make cleaning the shower easier, opt for a technology that will prevent the glass from becoming grimy.

Hardware

A frameless shower door doesn't feature much clunky metal. But it does require brackets to be attached to the wall and floor and a door handle. You can also fit a towel rack onto the outer part of the shower. Finishes include brass, brushed chrome, polished nickel and copper. Thus, the hardware offers varying silver, gold, bronze and black shades. You, therefore, won't have any problems integrating the shower with other hardware in the bathroom, like the vanity handles and taps, for example.

The hinges and brackets come in different contours also. They can be softly rounded or square and angular. You also need to select a shower door handle. These often come in different knob shapes or pull handles. Pick between sculptured or Victorian designs for a traditional bathroom. Or else, select a simple H-shape that will look perfectly at home in a modern space. However, knob handles are often the most minimalist if that's the look you're after.
